About Sevenoaks Area Mind

Sevenoaks Area Mind is one of over 180 local Mind associations (LMAs) which are affiliated to the national charity Mind. It is an independent charitable organisation, which supports the overall values and vision of the national organisation and is subject to its quality standards.

Mind is the leading mental health charity in England and Wales, and the best known charity for mental health. It works to create a better life for everyone with experience of mental distress by:

• campaigning for people’s rights
• challenging poor practice in mental health
• informing and supporting thousands of people on a daily basis
• providing over a thousand services across England and Wales through its network of local Mind associations

Sevenoaks Area Mind was one of the early local Mind associations and was affiliated to national Mind in the early 1960’s. It began as the Sevenoaks and District Association for Mental Health (SDAMH) with a few local people forming a committee to provide CABAT – a social drop-in based at Sevenoaks Hospital for people with mental health difficulties who might want some coffee, biscuits and tea!  Much has happened since those early days, as you can see from all the different activities here on our website.
