Buyers compete for art exhibits

The Altered Art exhibition at Knole House has attracted strong interest from people keen to purchase the original works on display. The exhibition has been organised by Sevenoaks Area Mind to showcase the skills and creativity of the people who use its services.

Visitors to the exhibition have the opportunity to bid for the artworks on display, and so far interest has been strong.  ‘We can already see a growing number of bids in the sealed bid box’ said Jonathan Sargant of the National Trust, which runs Knole House, ‘I have lost count  of the number of people who have told me that they would like to take away all of them!

The Chief Executive of Sevenoaks Area Mind, Jill Roberts said:

“This exhibition is about getting people to rethink their behaviour and attitudes towards people with mental health problems. The sheer creativity and quality of the pieces demonstrates the enormous skill and potential that those experiencing mental health issues have, and I’m delighted that there has been such a strong interest from potential buyers.”

As well as promoting good mental health through art, the charity is engaged in a number of other projects and schemes throughout the area. The charity welcomes volunteers and donations from anyone who would like to support their work.

The Altered Art exhibition will run from 6 -19 July in The Orangery at Knole House, Sevenoaks. Admission to the exhibition is free. All proceeds from the sales will support the work of the charity and its beneficiaries.
