We have THREE fantastic, fun, fundraising events to look forward to in July! We’ll be afloat for the sponsored DRAGON BOAT RACE at the Family Fun Day in Mote Park, Maidstone, on Sunday 1 July. FASHION IN MIND is a fabulous hair and fashion show at Mu Mu’s Bar & Restaurant in Maidstone on Thursday 5 July. On Saturday 21 July support us at an old fashioned GARDEN PARTY at The Harrow pub in Hadlow.

Fantastic news! Sevenoaks Sound & Vision have very kindly donated a Television for use at the Tonbridge drop in centre! The 42″ LCD TV is going to make the Film Club at Tonbridge feel like they are actually in a Cinema.

Quality Standards at Sevenoaks Area Mind

Sevenoaks Area Mind is delighted to report that we have attained level 3 (the highest possible grade) of the Quality Management in Mind quality assurance scheme.

This means that we can now use the Quality Standard (Charity Commission Endorsed) kite mark, reinforcing to stakeholders and external bodies that we meet all the requirements of being an effective charity and are providing services that meet and exceed the needs of our service users.

The Quality Management in Mind scene sets out 12 quality standards that cover matters like governance and management, planning and policy, performance, commitment to quality, equality and diversity, and user involvement. The standards require the submission of a substantial body of evidence backed up by a visit from an assessment team.

Support Workers – Supported Housing

We are looking for two Support Workers for our supported housing projects. A well as customer focus, confidence, judgement and empathy for people with mental health problems, you will have a high level of ability to support people to reach their full potential and move on to live independently in the community.

Salary: £15,039 to £16,830 – pro-rata for part-time post

New post – Development Co-ordinator

Grant awarded to fund new Development Co-ordinator

We have been awarded a grant of £36,000 to help pay for a worker to recruit and develop more volunteers for our work within the community. The current economic downturn has seen an increase in issues such as depression and anxiety related to money worries and unemployment, and more skilled volunteers are needed to help provide a wide range of support options for the growing number of people using our services.

The two year grant awarded by the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales will help fund the salary of a Development Co-ordinator, to ensure the charity can continue to deliver initiatives to promote and improve the mental health and well-being of local people.

Chief Executive Jill Roberts says, “Local charities like us depend upon the enormous contribution of our volunteers, and on the generosity of others to ensure we can continue our vital work. We really welcome the generous support of the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales; this grant will make a huge difference to our on-going aim to deliver a wider range of services, as well helping us to involve our local community more fully in our work.

Mental Health Awareness Workshops

Sevenoaks Area Mind announce the next Mental Health Awareness workshop to be held at our Sevenoaks Centre on 29 March.

The half-day workshop will be run by our Sevenoaks Area Mental Health Awareness Group (SAMHAG) on Thursday 29 March, from 13:30 – 16:30 (registration from 13:00)

Health Trainer at Sevenoaks

Health Trainers are a new NHS workforce who can help you when you want to take more control over your health and want to make health improving lifestyle changes. They can offer up to six to eight free sessions of support, encouragement and practical assistance to help you make positive lifestyle changes, including:

emotional wellbeing
healthy eating
exercise
losing weight
sexual health concerns
stopping smoking
drug and alcohol issues

At Sevenoaks Area Mind we appreciate the important link between physical and mental health, and we are delighted to announce that you can now make an appointment to see a Health Trainer who comes to our Sevenoaks Centre on Fridays between 10am and 1pm.
