Mental Health First Aid courses
The aim of these courses is to give everyone the knowledge and confidence to recognise signs of mental health problems, encourage someone to seek the right help, and to reduce the stigma around mental illness.
Standard
The Standard Mental Health First Aid is a 2 day course for:
- anybody working in the field of mental health
- people who, in the course of their work, are supporting those with mental health needs
- people who, on a personal level, are supporting those with mental health needs
- any adult (16+) who wishes to learn more about mental health issues
The course will teach you to:
- Spot the early signs of a mental health problem
- Feel confident helping someone experiencing a problem
- Provide help on a first aid basis
- Help prevent someone from hurting themselves or others
- Help stop a mental illness from getting worse
- Help someone recover faster
- Guide someone towards the right support
- Reduce the stigma of mental health problems
Youth
The Youth Mental Health First Aid is a 2 day course for those who teach, work, live with or care for young people aged 11 – 18. The training provides information, tools and techniques to promote a young person’s mental and emotional wellbeing and to enable participants to support a young person who might be experiencing mental and emotional distress.
The course will teach you to:
- Spot the early signs of a mental health problem in young people
- Feel confident in helping a young person experiencing a problem
- Provide help on a first aid basis
- Help protect a young person who might be at risk of harm
- Help prevent a mental illness from getting worse
- Help a young person recover faster
- Guide a young person towards the right support
- Reduce the stigma of mental health problems
