Walk for West Kent Mind and raise money for your local mental health charity. 👟

The London Summer Walk takes place on Saturday 24 August. Starting and finishing at Woolwich Barracks, you can choose between walking for 25km or 10km. 

While walking you will visit gorgeous and iconic sights across London and the Historic Thames Gateway.
The event will finish with a BBQ meal, bar and music and everyone that completes one of the walks will receive a medal, neck buff and certificate.

This promises to be a wonderful way to spend the August Bank Holiday weekend and raise vital funds for West Kent Mind.

We want to start the week by saying a big 'thank you' to @wkfreemasons for their donation of £1910.65. This generous donation will be used to purchase much needed laptops. 💻 

These laptops will be used by our clients and wellbeing workers and will mean that more people can access our vital services. Receiving the support that they need to help them get well, stay well and thrive with positive mental health.

Our Head of Digital, Brian Pugsley, said in response to the donation:

"It’s essential that we capture data and stories demonstrating the impact of our mission to enrich lives through better mental health. Our team are hard at work in community venues across West Kent and depend on light modern laptops to record their impressive results. Heartfelt thanks to the West Kent Freemasons whose generosity has allowed us to replace 6 slow and heavy laptops with 6 shiny new modern ones!"

These laptops will make a huge difference to our work and the work done by our community team. Thank you again to West Kent Freemasons for their amazingly generous donation. 💙

"The course was fantastic. The workbook is a really good resource and made the course easy to follow. I feel it covered everything we would need to know being Mental Health First Aiders really clearly and with enough detail. Ceri is a fantastic trainer, she explained everything really clearly, answered all of our questions, checked in on us regularly, was really reassuring and showed confidence in us being able to carry out this role."

Our amazing Training Manager, Ceri, will be running Mental Health First Aid Courses in April and June. The course in April will be run online, via Zoom, and the training in June will be run in person at The Stag Theatre in Sevenoaks.

This course perfectly equips you with the skills and knowledge you need to support the mental health of yourself and others; gives you the confidence to calmly offer appropriate help and support; and prepares you to listen, without judgement, to anyone who needs to be heard.

Sleep and mental health are closely linked. Mental health problems can affect your sleep. Poor sleep can impact your mental health.

Today is #WorldSleepDay and we've got some tips that may help you improve that snoozing schedule:

⏰ Try and establish a routine by going to bed and waking up at similar times each day.
🛏️ Do something to relax yourself before bed, like listening to peaceful music or doing some meditation.
📖 Write down any thoughts that might be troubling you.
📱Light from screens can impact your sleep, so try and reduce your screen time before bed.

The TCS London Marathon MyWay sees tens of thousands of people taking part in the world's biggest marathon from wherever they are on the planet - at the same time as the mass event on the streets of London. 

You can do the virtual marathon any way you like over 24 hours - walk it, run it, do it in stages, the choice is yours!

The TCS London Marathon MyWay is the perfect opportunity to take part in the marathon your way, while raising money for West Kent Mind. This is ideal if you:

👟 need longer to complete the 26.2 miles,
👟 can’t (or don’t want to) travel to London,
👟 or want the flexibility and freedom of taking on the challenge from wherever you are.

To earn the coveted TCS London Marathon finisher medal and a New Balance T-shirt, just complete the distance from 00:00 to 23:59:59 BST on Sunday 21 April.

Our brand new Creative Minds programmes will begin in April and we have some wonderful sessions for you to join.

Creative Minds is funded by the National Lottery and is an opportunity to allow yourself time to engage in creative activities. This can encourage mindfulness, relaxation and an improved mood. It can also help to increase concentration, boost confidence and reduce stress and anxiety.

We have four Creative Minds programmes starting in April:

🍳 Creative Cooking,
🎨 Watercolour Wellness,
📷 One Click at a Time,
🎶 and Music for the Mind, our singing group.

We're working with professional artists and arts organisations in community venues across West Kent to offer a wide range of different activities to inspire creativity and improve wellbeing.  You don't need any previous experience or skill to join these free groups. Just enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and an interest in supporting your mental health and wellbeing.
